Bell Casting at Freeman College
A certain day became a presence to me;
there it was, confronting me — a sky, air, light:
a being. And before it started to descend
from the height of noon, it leaned over
and struck my shoulder as if with
the flat of a sword, granting me
honor and a task. The day’s blow
rang out, metallic — or it was I, a bell awakened,
and what I heard was my whole self
saying and singing what it knew: I can.

Frank recently had the opportunity to cast in bronze the unique bell shape he discovered on the basis of the geometry of the chestahedron (this video shows the relationship). The casting took place on June 11, 2010 at Freeman College in Sheffield, England, in cooperation with The Ruskin Mill Educational Trust, along with sponsors: The Church Burgesses, The Graves Trust, The Sheffield Town Trust, and Brass Founders Sheffield. Frank also invented a new way of supporting a bell so that when rung the entire bell can resonate freely.
Recognizing the bell’s connection to the heart and the heart’s future development (the fifth chamber indicated by Rudolf Steiner), this first casting on the earth of the “heart bell” presented the opportunity for men and women to transform old heart relationships by contributing gold rings of former marriages, no longer symbolic of what they once were, to the bronze alloy from which the bell was cast. The gold added to the bronze alloy in this way purifies the quality of the tone that resonates from the bell throughout time. People sent gold from all over the world, committing gold rings from the past into the casting of a bell of the future, transforming a former symbol (ring) into a pure “ring”ing that will resound throughout the future.
